This week, the Læra Institute took an active part in Arctic Congress Bodø 2024, convening our third faculty workshop, a side-meeting on UArctic Circumpolar Studies programme delivery, and a double session of presentations on 'Educational innovation for the Circumpolar North'. We also took part in a workshop on 'Circumpolar Education for Environmental Change and Resilience'.

We're delighted to announce the publication of two Læra Institute Circumpolar Studies exemplar courses. These courses were designed according to our Circumpolar Studies Curriculum Development guidelines to supplement the UArctic Circumpolar Studies core curricuum, and they're available for use to any faculty teaching about the Circumpolar North.

The Læra Institute was delighted to host our first student symposium, 'Being Circumpolar', which took place online on 20th, 22nd and 24th November 2024. Undergraduate students from around the UArctic attended to learn about and discuss three topics under the three UArctic Circumpolar Studies themes of peoples and cultures, lands and environments, and contemporary issues.

The Læra Institute invites undergraduates from any UArctic member university to take part in our first student symposium, 'Being Circumpolar', taking place online on 20th, 22nd and 24th November 2024. Inspiring speakers, engaging discussions and conversations, and the chance to interact with fellow students from around the Circumpolar North, and around the world!

The UArctic Læra Institute is pleased to extend the deadline on our call for proposals from UArctic member faculty for two new undergraduate-level Circumpolar Studies courses.  The new deadline for submissions is 9th October 2023.

This week, the Læra Institute took an active part in the 8th UK Arctic Science Conference, convening a session on 'Arctic educational innovation and pedagogical scholarship' together with the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia.

The UArctic Læra Institute invites proposals from UArctic member faculty for two new undergraduate-level Circumpolar Studies courses.  These courses are intended to supplement the UArctic Circumpolar Studies core curriculum, and to serve as exemplars of courses developed according to the guidelines in the UArctic Læra Institute Circumpolar Studies Curriculum Development handbook.  Funding is available for selected proposals.

Anthony Speca, the Læra Institute's Managing Director, has recently published an article arguing that Model Arctic Council, a form of simulation pedagogy, has a special role to play in educating youth about sustainable development in the Arctic, as well as inspiring them to take action to promote it.

On 23rd May 2023, the UArctic Læra Institute for Circumpolar Education was pleased to be able to hold our second faculty workshop during the UArctic Assembly meeting in Québéc, involving twelve scholars and educators from eight UArctic member institutions across Canada, Finland, Norway, Sweden and the USA.
