The UArctic Læra Institute is pleased to extend the deadline on our call for proposals from UArctic member faculty for two new undergraduate-level Circumpolar Studies courses. The new deadline for submissions is 9th October 2023.

The UArctic Læra Institute invites proposals from UArctic member faculty for two new undergraduate-level Circumpolar Studies courses. These courses are intended to supplement the UArctic Circumpolar Studies core curriculum, and to serve as exemplars of courses developed according to the guidelines in the UArctic Læra Institute Circumpolar Studies Curriculum Development handbook. Funding is available for selected proposals.

Anthony Speca, the Læra Institute's Managing Director, has recently published an article arguing that Model Arctic Council, a form of simulation pedagogy, has a special role to play in educating youth about sustainable development in the Arctic, as well as inspiring them to take action to promote it.

On 23rd May 2023, the UArctic Læra Institute for Circumpolar Education was pleased to be able to hold our second faculty workshop during the UArctic Assembly meeting in Québéc, involving twelve scholars and educators from eight UArctic member institutions across Canada, Finland, Norway, Sweden and the USA.

The Læra Institute is delighted to have taken part in the first in-person workshop of the University of Washington's NSF-funded 'Co-designing Civic Education for the Circumpolar North' project, which took place in Rovaniemi and Ánar/Inari, Finland, from 10th to 14th October.
